Shadow Work

The shadow is a term for everything we can’t see in ourselves. It was explored and defined by Carl Jung a century ago, but is still powerful and so relevant.  Our shadow holds those parts of ourself that we learned (usually at an early age) were somehow “unacceptable.”

~It could be our anger: perhaps we were rejected for showing anger as a young child (“be nice”)
~Or may our vulnerability: perhaps when we showed we were vulnerable schoolmates attacked.
~Our sexuality could be there if we were told sex is sinful or otherwise “bad.”
~We can put any or all parts or actions in shadow if they are not “perfect.”

It can be any aspect, emotion or character trait.  E very human being is susceptible to this. Most of us go to great lengths to protect our self-image from our Shadow aspects.  Because of this, it’s easier to observe another’s shadow before acknowledging one’s own. Exploring your shadow can lead to greater authenticity, creativity, energy, and personal awakening. This introspective process is essential for reaching mature adulthood (which is rarer than most think).

Exploring the impact of the wounded, exiled or unfamiliar parts of yourself are central to much of my  mentoring and coaching. I’m here as a guide and a partner in your exploration of what you may need to shed and what you deeply wish to realize…

Visioning

Create a vision for your life that reflects what really matters to you.

If you feel like your meandering from year to year… or you think your life hasn’t turned out the way you planned, it’s time for a reality check.  What do you really want?

Most people don’t get clear about their vision overnight. It requires time for reflection, using both logic and a feeling perspective. Vision comes from your own desires, hopes, dreams and values.  When you create a vision that resonates with your purpose and values, it generates energy, passion and commitment; and magical things start to happen.

Visioning is a process that can be more fruitful and deep with a guide… We work together too clarify what’s really precious to you, what nourishes you, mind and spirit (and push aside what you were taught or told “should”).  We explore all the ways you can live these things… in work, in play and in service.  And narrow your focus to develop a way forward to manifest your heart-felt life.

Often my clients move into Sacred Depths Coaching… a special sort of mentoring and guiding that always holds your heart, mind and spirit central when devising steps and goals to reach your vision.

Why Do Both Together?

Our Shadows can stand in our way.  If left unexamined and misunderstood, they can cause us to sabotage our efforts to work toward our visioned life.  And isn’t the goal of a good life to be whole, authentic and balanced?  This is not possible if we are keeping important parts of our self distant, repressed or hidden.
